Winter is past . . .

My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; -Song 2:10-11

There are seasons. We languish in the winter when our world grows cold and lifeless. A time we call “in the dead of winter.”

winter-thaw2Moses lived through 40 years of winter. He knew his calling, having chosen to side with the people of God—his people—rather than enjoy all the power and pleasures of Egypt. When God determined to let the generation die that rejected deliverance and feared Egypt instead, winter came. As God told Samuel, men do not reject leaders, they reject Him.

Winters are hard. But they prepare all things in His plan. Spring comes. The freshened soil of a new generation emerges.

Do you hear His sweet whisper? “Come away with me.” Fruit will soon come, and the cost is unimportant. Things that consumed our thoughts and time and energy lose their grip as we become enrapt with Him.

Soon, we will hear His whisper again.

And then, we will join Him forever face to face, and this time of travail, this once in an eternity opportunity, will have ended.
