I am like a broken plate

Four Things that break God’s Heart

  1. The Havoc and Pain of Sin

John 11:33 “When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled. God’s Heart breaks over sin because He knows the damage and hurt sin brings.”

  • Gen 6:5,6 The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
  • Isaiah 22:4 Turn away from me; let me weep bitterly. Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people.
  • Jeremiah 4:18-19 Your own conduct and actions have brought this on you. This is your punishment. How bitter it is! How it pierces to the heart! Oh, my anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain. Oh, the agony of my heart! My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent. For I have heard the sound of the trumpet; I have heard the battle cry.

2. Horror at Losing Purity and Unity

John 12:27 “Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. God’s heart broke the day He and His Son were separated, when His Son become sin for us. Similarly, God’s heart grieves over the loss of purity and unity with/among His children.”

  • My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?
  • II Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin
  • Jn 17:16-19 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
  • Jn 17:22-23 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

3. The Cries and Troubles of His Children

John 12:27 “Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.” God’s heart breaks when He hears our cries as we endure the ravages sin

  • Ex 3:7-8 And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians
  • Jeremiah 31:20 Is Ephraim my dear son? is he a pleasant child? for since I spake against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the Lord.

4. The Wounds of Idolatry (breaking the first commandment).

John 13:21 “When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.” God’s heart breaks when He does everything possible to draw us to Himself and yet we dismiss Him for other “loves.”

  • Psalm 41:9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, (600 years prior)
    • I Corinthians 11:23, “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread…” (this some 12 years after that night)
  • Psa 31:12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken plate.
  • Rom 1:21, 25, 28 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened…[they] changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator… they did not like to retain God in their knowledge
  • Hosea 1:2; 3:1 Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD. Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods (Now, Hosea, you can speak for Me because you understand my pain.)
